*For the diagram of the wireless industry

 

This is what we came up for the diagram to explain the structure of the wireless industry. We came up with the Hamburger. Basically, the Google itself would be the top of the hamburger. While the hardware, software and the carrier would be the main ingredients. After passing through all the manufacturing process, we would promote our products through commercialization companies. At the end, we have the customers as the last piece of the hamburger.

so we discussed below about the features and concluded (for now) that
1) instead of a scanner - install a voice recognition/ touch pad unless universal RFID system is adopted
2) an odor detector- in order to keep the shelves less smelly
and it would be unnecessary to have a function which you could look inside the fridge without opening it! :)

1) Scanner : to scan the items in order to know what’s in there and when the expiration date is so that the fridge can always be kept neat and won’t smell anymore!

Actually, this box was awarded as the 'Most-Korean Design' by government bc of its long history and usefulness (it's easy to open and close with sliding door, cheap, strong, easy to clean, and light(?)). However, some people insist that this is originally from Japanese delivery box which is made by wood. I've found some info about the delivery part time job in Chinese restaurants. The point here is, many part timers complain that it's inconvenient to revisit places to get the plates back.

As my links are all written in Korean, I'll translate some facts in English.

There was a law that restricts the use of disposable plates for Korean/Chinese restaurants. However, this law was modified from 2008. (http://www.seoul.co.kr/news/newsView.php?id=20120225011020) As a result, more restaurants are prone to use disposable plates for some reasons.
Firstly, it is a huge bothersome for restaurants' owners to get containers back and wash them. They worry that the plates can be broken/stolen, and deliverers (usually part timers) complain about it.
However, from the point of view of consumers, they don't like this as a) it looks less tasty with plastic plates b) they don't know how to recycle/throw away the leftovers c) they are concerned with health (hot foods/soups in plastic containers).

For chicken, ppl regard it as natural to use paper containers. However, many ppl in Korea still think it's unhealthy and somewhat careless to use disposable plates for Chinese/Korean foods.

We will adapt this idea, however, our material is quite thick, we'd be rather make a small part of the plate to be double-layered. After finish eating and when you go to a sink or a toilet to throw away soup (국물) , you simply peel out the upper layer, and there would b HOLES underneath it. You just pour it without worrying about making ur hands dirty.

대다수 컵라면의 용기재질인 폴리스틸렌은 원료물질 ‘비스페놀A’와 제조과정에서 형태를 쉽게 만들기 위해 첨가하는 가소제 ‘디에틸헥실프탈레이트(DEHP)’가 내분비계를 교란하는 환경 호르몬으로 알려져 있다.

그러나 도시락이나 삼각김밥, 국물 어묵, 용기에 담긴 만두 등 전자레인지 조리가능 표시나 조리시간이 표시된 즉석식품의 용기는 폴리프로필렌과 폴리에틸렌으로 만들어진다. 폴리프로필렌은 가소제와 비스페놀A가 들어 있지 않아 환경 호르몬이 검출되지 않는다. 섭씨 1백도 이상의 고온에서 녹을 수 있어 수분이 많은 국물류 제품에만 용도가 한정된다.

이밖에 플라스틱 제품 중에서 멜라민수지, 페놀수지, 요소수지로 된 제품들은 발암물질인 포름알데히드가 녹아 나올 수 있으므로 전자레인지에 사용해서는 안 된다.

현재에도 플라스틱 용기 이외에 종이 용기가 판매중에 있습니다. 플라스틱 용기는 환경 호르몬 문제로 인체에 해롭다는 문제가 있을 뿐만 아니라 자연에 분해되는 데에도 상당한 시간이 걸리기 때문에 환경 적인 측면에서도 좋지 않습니다. 종이용기는 플라스틱 용기와 같이 소비자의 건강을 해치는 문제에 대해서는 위험이 훨씬 덜 하지만, 환경적인 면에서 재활용률이 저조하다는 문제를 낳고 있습니다. 이러한 두 용기 재질의 문제때문에 현재까지도 여러 컵라면 제조 회사들이 친환경 용기 개발에 힘쓰고 있고 실제로 농심에서 전분 용기를 개발하여 시행한 사례까지 있습니다. 하지만, 정부의 지원이 미약할 뿐만 아니라 전분 용기 등과 같이 환경친화적인 용기의 경우 제품 생산비용이 플라스틱과 종이에 비해 3-4배 까지 차이가 날 수 있기때문에 소비자들에게 큰 부담이 될 수 밖에 없습니다. 농심의 전분용기도 이러한 문제때문에 현재까지 유통되지 못한 것입니다. 스티로폼과 종이 용기를 대체할 만한 용기가 하루 빨리 유통되기 위해서는 정부에서 스티로폼 용기를 생산하는 업체에 대한 환경부담금을 늘이고 이로 인해 생기게 되는 비용을 친환경 소재 용기를 개발하는 업체에 지원하는 등의 정책에 앞서 시행한다면 소비자들이 친환경 소재로 안심하고 컵라면을 즐길 수 있는 날이 올 것이라고 예상됩니다.

플라스틱 종류

폴리에틸렌(PE : Polyethylene)

Polyethylene은 가볍고 유연하며 내약품성과 우수한 강도를 나타내며 절연성과 가공성도 좋으므로 포장재료, 가정용품 및 건축 재료등에 널리 사용된다. PE의 화학구조식은 -CH2-CH2-으로 ethylene 단위가 반복되는 고분자 물질이다. PE의 분자구조는 중합방법에 따라 선형 일수도 있고 가지형 고분자 형태를 취하게 되는데, 고분자의 밀도에 따라 고밀도PE(HDPE), 선형저밀도PE
(LLDPE), 저밀도 PE(LDPE)등으로 분류할수 있다.

사용용도

각종 용기(容器), 포장용 필름, 섬유, 파이프, 패킹, 도료, 공업약품용 용기, 액체세제 용기, 공업용 로프, 포장용 필름

폴리프로필렌(polypropylene, PP)

프로필렌을 중합시켜 얻어지는 폴리머로 분자량 4만 정도 이상의 것이 시판되고 있으며, 밀도는 0.90으로 인장강도, 내열성 등이 비교적 우수한 폴리머이다. 대부분의 성질은 폴리에틸렌과 유사하지만 stress crack에 잘견디고 투명성도 상당히 우수하다. 내충격성을 개량하기 위해 다른 단량체와 공중합시킨 것이나 폴리이소부틸렌 등을 블렌드한것, 석면 이나 유리섬유를 배합한 재료 등도 시판되고 있고, 자동차부품의 공업적 용도나 각종용기, 필름등에 이용되고 있다.

폴리염화비닐( polyvinylchloride, PVC)

염화비닐의 중합에 의해서 얻어지는 폴리머로 비중 1.45의 65∼85℃에서 연화되고, 120∼150℃에서 가소성이 있고 170℃이상에서 용융된다. 내산성, 내알카리성이 우수하고 무독, 난연성이며 전기절연성도 좋다. 알코올, 유기산 지방족 탄화수소에는 용해되지 않는다. 방향족 탄화수소(벤젠, 톨루엔)에는 swelling하고 케톤류(사이클로 헥사논, 메틸 이소부틸 케톤), 옥시란 화합물(테트라하이드로퓨란, 디옥산), 니트로 벤젠에는 잘 녹는다. 뜨거울 때는 염산을 유리하면서 분해되지만 190℃이상되면 분해가 심해진다. 이 폴리머에 각종 첨가제를 배합한 것이 염화비닐수지로서 다량으로 사용되고 있다.

폴리스티렌( polystyrene, PS)

스티렌의 단독 중합체로서 무색투명이며 가시광선 투과율은 메타아크릴 수지 다음으로 큰 유리와 같은 정도이고 인장강도, 탄성율은 열가소성수지 중에서 상위에 위치하지만 충격강도는 작다. 전기적 성질은 매우 우수하며 플라스틱 중 최고의 부류에 속한다. 내광성이 약해서 직사광선하에서 노랗게 변하고 약해지지만 자외선 흡수제, 항산화제를 배합한 내광성 grade는 실용상 큰 장점을 지닌다. 방향족 또는 염소화탄화수소, 케톤, 에스테르 등에 녹지만 내수, 내산, 내 알카리성이 우수하다. 또한 열분해 온도가 높아 녹을 때의 열안정성, 유동성도 함께 우수하므로 성형가공성이 우수하고 특히 사출성형이 용이한 것이 큰 특징이다. 성형은 주로 사출성형에 의존하는데 성형수축이 작아 성형품의 크기 안정성, 표면광택과 함께 우수하다. 용도는 각종 용기, 가정용품, 완구, 사무용품 등의 잡화용과 각종 약전기기(弱電機器)부품, 하우징 등의 공업용으로 크게 나뉜다.

SAN(AS)수지 (SAN : Styrene Acrylonitrile Copolymer)

스티렌과 아크릴로니트릴의 공중합체로 강성이 크고 표면경도도 커서 상처가 잘나지 않는다.

사용 용도

전기기기 부품, 일용품, 자동차부품, 악기 및 기타부품

ABS 수지(아크릴로니트릴-부타디엔-스티렌수지:ABS resin)

아크릴로니트릴 부타디엔 및 스티렌의 3성분으로 되는 내충격성 수지로 이들 3성분의 머리글자를 따서 ABS수지라고 한다. ABS수지에는 스티렌-아크릴로니트릴 공중합체와 NBR과의 폴리머블렌드에 의한 블렌드형과 BR, 또는 SBR 라텍스의 공존하에 스티렌과 아크릴로니트릴을 그래프트 공중합해서 얻어지는그래프트형의 2종류가 있는데 현재의 ABS수지는 그 대부분이 그래프트형이다. 이 수지의 자연색은 염황색으로 보통 불투명한데 현재에는 투명품도 개발되어 있다.

ABS수지의 특징은 넓은 온도범위에 걸쳐서 우수한 내충격강도를 가짐과 동시에 우수한 인장강도, 강성, 내열성을 함께 가진다. 그외에 전기적 성질, 내유성, 내약품성, 내오염성이 우수해서 사출, 압출, 캘린더 가공 등 모든 성형법이 적용 되고 성형수축도 작다. 성형품은 아름다운 광택과 우수한 치수 안정성, 내크리이프성이 있고 또 진공성형, 도장, 금속도금 등의 2차가공도 용이하다. 용도는 각종 가연 전기 등의 약전기기 부품이나 캐비닛 하우징류를 중심으로 기타 일반기기의 하우징, 자동차의 내외장부품,완구, 잡화, PVC의 개질보강재 등 광범위에 미친다. 초광폭압출 시트에 의한 대형 진공 성형품이나 저배율 발포체도 있다.

발포폴리스티렌(EPS : Expandable Polystyrene)

폴리스티렌과 발포제를 직접 압출기 속에서 용해·혼합하여 판상 또는 관상의 발포성형폼을 만든다. 폴리스티렌과 ABS수지의 저발포사출성형품은 나무 무늬 모양을 갖게 하여 질감과 중량감, 그리고 강도면에서도 나무와 흡사하며 목재 대체 재료로 사용한다.

포장재, 흡음재, 완충재, 단열재, 건축재, 가구재

에틸렌-비닐알콜 공중합체(ethylene-vinylalcohol copolymer : EVA resin)

에틸렌-초산비닐공중합체를 비누화 함에 의해 얻어지는 수지로 분자내에 수산기가 있어서 이것이 이 수지의 성질을 특징짓는 요인으로 되어있다. 구라레가 세계에서 최초로 공업화에 성공하여 high gas barrier성 열가소성 결정성수지<에바루>로서 상품화 하였다. 특징으로는 높은 가스 배리어성을 보이는데 산소가스 투과량은 나일론이나 PET의 약 1/100, LDPE의 약 1/20.000이다. 또 유기용제성이 우수하다. 가공성도 우수하여 열성형이 용이하여 다른 플라스틱과 조합하여 공압출필름/시트사출성형, 회전성형, 다색인쇄, 라미네이션 등도 가능하다. 용도로서는 가스배리어성과 내유성, 보향성을 살려서 식품화장품,농약 등의 포장에 사용되고 있다.

 

 

What kind of shape should we make?

 

 

 

 

 

 

We actually wanted to make a curvy shaped plate. But, it would be hard to spoon the 'rice'(밥) from the corner bc of its shape.

Also, this can be quite unstable, so we settled down for more plain shape-squre.

 

 

Round shape, like usual plates, would be also nice, but when you put plates together in a small carrier on a motorcycle, you don't have enough space!

 

 

If you use a square shaped plates, you can stock more plates at once -> reduce the time of delivery, make deliverers happier.

 

In the presentation, the professor pointed out the delivery guy might not be happy as he needs to assemble the cover.

However, it's worse to go back to the restaurant again and go out for another destination, in our opinion.

 

Also, as they are all attached, they can preserve heat better.

 

 

Inspiration from an yogurt

 

We wanted to keep the noodle and soup seperately.

When you order noodles like Woodong, Jambbong, or Jajangmyen, the noodles stick together and the soup doesn't taste good when the source(soup) and the noodles are in one plate.

It's because of '삼투압'-the water inside the noodle comes out when it meets liquid on surface.

 

Also, when you order a Dosirak, when side dishes (반찬) are mixed together as they are served in a single plate, it falls apetite of customers a lot.

So we wanted to keep things seperately in a simple but innovative way.

 

 

In Korea, there's a product called '비요뜨'. It can fold one side of the dish and pour the content into another sider.

We decided to add a similar flexibility to the structure: The plate itself can be folded.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lego-like shape (Two layered box)

 

 

This was one of our ideas, but it doesn't look stable enough. Also, Korean foods usually contains one big dish and two smaller dishes. The smaller dishes don't require much space like this one.

So we came up with another idea.

We found out there should be something to hold it altogether in place-> a coverage like a coffee holder?

 

 

 

This is the semi final prototype. However, this yellow coverage had two problems; we weren't sure whether the chopstickes are strong enough to carry the box (it might be broken or be lost) and the second layer needs to be hold together tightly.

So we added additional touch.

 

 

The first option. Though this will help keep the second layer in a shape, it doesn't guarantee the safety of carrying ths box.

About the last comment ("The same thing is in Poland"):

We researched the markets of Korea/Thailand/Norway/Japan/US and we hadn't found any idea similar to ours. 

In fact, we have rejected many ideas, (some of them were presented by other teams) because we did extensive market research to see if a similar featured product exists in the market. We wanted our product to be unique as this is an innovation class-if it's already in the market, this would not be a meaningful project for us.

 

However, even though a similar one is in the Polish market ( but we haven't found anything similar to our product when we researched) we are targeting KOREAN market, and from the Korean customer's point of view, this packaging would be fresh and new.

Also, we have added some features like holes for throwing away soup (it would encourge ppl to recycle the food waste), menu-printed tray, eco-friendly material and so on.

So we are sure that our product is quite advanced version, more than the Polish version, and especially satisfy the needs of delivery food industry in Korea.
